- Session Time: 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM & 1:00 PM - 3:30 PM
- Session Description: Hands-On Workshop
- Session Information: The term ‘animism’ refers to the idea that all things possess an inherent energy or living spirit. In today’s modern world with environmental concerns on the rise, it is apparent that remembering our connections to the living earth is of growing importance. In this workshop we will engage in a hands-on experience of awakening our senses to nature through the creative process. Rachel will provide participants with opportunities to investigate and collect nature materials to create ephemeral works and mixed media sculpture. This workshop would suit anyone interested in intentionally exploring nature and land based art. Note: we will be outdoors for a portion of this workshop so please wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for the weather.
- Presenter’s Bio: Rachel Schappert is a multi-faceted artist and arts educator based in Winnipeg, Canada. Her practice shape-shifts between sculpture, ephemeral installations and socially engaged art projects that explore the interconnected relationship between people and nature- focusing on themes of animism, ritual and collective joy. Schappert has shown her independent and collaborative work in galleries, parks and forests both locally and internationally.
