SPRING 2021:

MICROGRANTS for maae members

This year, the MAAE is offering Microgrants to support teachers during the pandemic. You must be a current member, or have been an MAAE member in 2019, to apply.

Connecting Communities:  Apply for up to $300, or up to $500 to cover consumable visual art supplies* and/or artist fees to (safely) connect communities at a distance and enhance learning in your K-12 classroom. Connect an elder to your classroom by Zoom! Connect your students to students from another place through an artwork-trade! Connect your students to seniors or front-line workers in your community! Projects must be completed before June 30th, 2021. Need ideas to get started? Click here to see how other teachers have "Connected Communities"!

COVID Relief: Has this year been challenging because of the need for additional visual art supplies* for students because sharing is not pandemic-friendly? Are there resources you need for teaching because of COVID that you can't afford with your regular art budget? Apply for up to $300, or up to $500 to adapt your classroom art teaching practice to the new realities of COVID-19.
Here are the details:

  • Funding may be spent on consumable student-grade art supplies, artists' fees, honoraria for Indigenous Elders or Knowledge-Keepers, and other approved supplies and materials.
  • Projects must be completed during regular school day classes (no after school programs, lunch hour programs, counselling/art therapy sessions, etc.). These Microgrants are intended to support classroom teachers teaching visual art classes to students during the school day.
  • Project(s) must be completed by June 30th, 2021.
  • Applicants who receive funding will be asked to send the MAAE a summary (this can be as short as a paragraph, and as long as 300 words) about the project(s) or artworks completed using the funds, and include between 3 and 5 photos of the process and/or final projects  (no faces please) due no later than July 15th 2021.  This will be posted on our website!
  • Applicants will collect receipts as funding is spent. No purchases on school PO's or through school accounts please. Please send your receipts to the MAAE by July 15th, 2021.
  • Accepting applications now.  Application will take minutes to complete online. Approved grant recipients will know of their status from the MAAE Grant Awards Committee within one week of the receipt of completed applications.
* These microgrants may not be used towards the purchase of permanent equipment such as kilns, printing presses, light tables, cameras, iPads, or other technological equipment.
